My studio photography journey

These photos were taken in my college studio. Over the past few months, I started learning studio photography and how to do the basics. I started simple and worked my way up. This was all very new to me, but I really enjoyed it. I experimented with using colour, projectors, and light painting.

For this photo, I experimented with purple and blue lighting. After testing a multitude of different colours, I decided that these tints would look best on camera.

I wanted to focus on a more natural studio photography style, so I experimented with different angles to see what worked best. I tried poses such as facing the camera while looking up, as well as looking away, to explore how each angle affected the final outcome.

I liked the idea of not fully revealing the face, so I tested with poses that somewhat blocked the eyes and head while still keeping the outline visible. I made sure to include colour in these shots to make it look more visually appealing.

This was my first time using a projector and stencil images to create an overlay effect. I didn’t practice this as much as I would’ve liked, but I wanted to go in a more creative route. I chose orange because it complemented my friend the most.

For this image i used light painting brushes for the first time. The settings were tricky, but I was glad to have attempted this. I would like to try and focus on the face more next time. For the background, I kept it simple with a black backdrop and pink lighting to match the colours that played on the brushes.

I experimented with props in my photography to give it a theme and more creativity. The props that we had available were jazz-themed.

This was another jazz-themed photo since my other photos had been aimed towards a more serious style. I wanted my friends to do what they felt like doing, and so I got some creative outcomes.

In this image i focused more on getting my settings correct than the image itself. I have added this photo to show you the overall vision I wanted to get. I started with a completely dark room and adjusted the lighting gradually.
