Shooting
For this particular shoot, I asked for a tripod in case I would need a steadier picture when doing group photos. Since I was given the opportunity to use props i found a multitude of jazz equipment which became the focus of this photoshoot. I had tinsel, inflatable saxophone vests and hats. To start off i ask my friends to choose a pose they’re comfortable with and experiment for a while, and then move on to taking the photos from my original ideas/list.
Props and presenting
I’ve included a few behind-the-scenes that were taken from my phone to show what the setup looked like and the process of putting on props. I changed the lighting a few times and occasionally added chairs and such for my friends to sit and pose on. The spotlights were a bit difficult to decide what colours fit everyone best, but eventually decided on keeping a few plain and the rest more colourful and creative.
Before starting the jazz photos, I experimented with projector photography. I asked my friend to stand by the backdrop whilst I aligned my camera and chose the colours and style. In moments like these, I have inspiration from previous research, shot lists and mood boards. Orange worked best with her skin tone, so when using the projector stencils, I focused on warmer colours and cooler tones for my other friend.
